It’s 12 years since we’ve seen a new Vulvectomy and boy did we deserve a new Italian brutality. And Vulvectomy has delivered. They’ve brought us, again, a sheer force of brutalness that many couldn’t replicate. Vulvectomy has done that with their 3 previous full lengths and could be considered one of the greats in the brutal slamming death metal genre. 

 

So, if you are familiar with the brutal slamming death metal genre, you are familiar with Vulvectomy. The guys have been hammering the (inter)national brutal music scene since 2007 and have been enriched with 1 demo and 4 full lengths under their belt. With experienced musicians that are/have (been) active in other bands like Devangelic, Corpse Fucking Art, Stench Of Dismemberment and many other (brutal) projects. This is the first record with their very first studio drummer and official member Marco Coghe. He will be providing the heavy drumwork you are going to love on ‘Aberrant Vaginal Gestation’.

 

Being one of the older styles of brutal slamming death metal, you won’t get those fancy new slam styles you will get with bands like PeelingFlesh. This is the old school brutal stuff you have been introduced to back in the past alongside Cephalotripsy, Kraanium and mostly Devourment. One of the main aspects of Vulvectomy was the straight forward artwork they gave us on their previous records like ‘Putrescent Clitoral Fermentation’ and ‘Post-Abortion Slut Fuck’. This is more guts and gore rather than the guts, gore and the sexual gore positions. You can say that this is more accessible but still remains very gory. 

 

From the get go, Vulvectomy delivers the characteristic style of riffage you are familiar with. The hyper-fast blasting of the drums now sounds very organic compared to the order records. I guess Vulvectomy is winning some souls with that but for me, Vulvectomy did get a boost but the older albums certainly have their own vibe to it being it with a drum-computer instead of a physical drummer. The new drummer certainly has already proven his skills but now he elevates Vulvectomy to a newer level which makes the band even more vile and more brutal. 

 

The characteristic tracknames are of course again present on ‘Aberrant Vaginal Gestation’ and again, the creativity certainly doesn’t hold back. If you have a brutal metal band and you don’t have to put ‘song title’ or ‘album’ or ‘band’ behind the song, album or band you are looking up, you are doing something wrong and  Vulvectomy certainly doesn’t hold back with tracks like ‘Conceived In Vaginal Sores’, ‘Subcutaneous Cumshots’ and ‘Molesting Dislimbed Whore’. I keep learning new medical words thanks to bands like Vulvectomy.

 

The brutality is and will always be present in the Vulvectomy camp whether it will be in the song titles, album art or the music and ‘Aberrant Vaginal Gestation’ isn’t an exception. The sheer veracity and brutality on said album don’t stop for the 40-minute that you will endure in a good way. Vulvectomy is back with what they do best and adding a bit more heaviness to it. The Italian brutal slamming death metal gods have returned and they won’t hold back. Hopefully we don’t have to wait another 12 years for something new from the Vulvectomy camp.
