Lanz - The Satanic Rock Opera

Lanz - The Satanic Rock Opera.jpg

This Rotterdam-based black metal Lanz is a special band. The black metal isn't the black metal you know like the Mayhem/Bathory. It has many weird and unexpected changes. From super fast guitar to jazz/ rock-like music is an skill that not every band has.

It isn't going to be the kind of review that you are used from GMP, because it is too complex and long to review every song seperate. The Satanic Rock Opera has been released by the label Zwaertgevegt

So the album has 14 song on it and every song is an experience. One song could be a pure black metal song but the other one could be a lovely jazz-like song. Dutch vocals are also present, so if you wonder where he sings about... it's Dutch. It is all about surprises. That is what Lanz is doing. The absurd non-music pieces contain weird conversations and even moaning. After the moaning I understand that this album has lyrical themes about Satanism, Death and Sex...

It is a massive mash up between so many genres I don't even know how to listen to this kind of music. But somehow it is catchy. Listen to it for a while and you will get heavily surprised by Lanz. I can somehow relate to old White Zombie/Rob Zombie with the evil/dark atmosphere that dwells in this album.  That is just the atmosphere, not the metal they play.

A difficult album to review but it challenges me to give you guys/girls the exact experience that I have here right now. The music is not a whole new genre, it is experimental. Not a specific genre as a start but if there was a genre as a start it would be called Experimental Atmospheric Metal.

It has opened my opinion about experimental music because I always had a negative opinion about this type of music. Not saying it is now my favourite type of music, it certainly isn't, but I am more open to it after I started Good Music Promotions.

The final conclusion of this weird album is a 7 out of 10. It has too many abrupt changes of musical genres and I really like some bits of the album but maybe in the future I will have another opinion about it.
