Kaasschaaf has returned! After a long time of silence, the Arnhem 5-piece party-gore-grind band has made a full-length album with the title ‘Obesitatas’ which translates into obesities boobs. After releasing their 2015 record ‘Punanidectomy’, the expectations were high set for me. Since ‘Punanidectomy’ was an amazingly fun goregrind record, I knew that the next record was going to be a better and even more funnier album to listen to. With the new addition of a guitarist, Kaasschaaf was all set up to produce and amazing album.

The first song of ‘Obesitatas’ has got a small homage to the city where Kaasschaaf hails from, which is Arnhem. Halfway into the song ‘Te Dom Om Te Poepen’, translates into To Stupid To Take A Shit, Kaasschaaf shouts ‘026’! Which is the city code of Arnhem. That’s pretty awesome in my opinion.

 

The song gives a great introduction to the new style of gore-grind that Kaasschaaf introduces to the world.

 

The second song is called ‘De Kuttenklopper’. Which literally translates into ‘The Pussyknocker’. Here you can hear the two vocalists take on the song perfectly. The new vocal techniques Sjors (which is the grunt-vocalist of Kaasschaaf) produces sound perfect with the new style of Kaasschaaf. The lower pig-squeals remind me a lot of VxPxOxAxAxWxAxMxCx or Gutalax, which are big names in the gore-grind scene. The song is more upbeat by looking at the previous release ‘Punanidectomy’.

 

Now, here is a lesson of Dutch pornography. ‘De Fietsopa’, literally translated ‘The Bicycle Grandpa’, is a Dutch porn legend. With his home-produced porn and horrible scripts and Dutch-English pronunciation. You can hear an Eastern prostitute talk to the old man himself which he says some lovely words to her. Especially the ‘Suck A Cock’ part is a legendary sentence the Dutch youth uses quite a lot. That a side, the song is very upbeat and makes sure you are going to run around in circles during a Kaasschaaf gig. During the song, you can hear the ‘classical’ transition between the two vocalists Sjors and Maarten. Kaasschaaf even found a way to fit in a tiny slam part. Even though the song is barely 2 minutes long, Kaasschaaf produces a great song to listen and dance to.

 

‘Beffen Met Een Snorkel’. How the hell do I translate this!? Ok, I’ll give it a try, ‘Eating Pussy With A Snorkel’. By far the most diverse song on ‘Obesitatas’. Controlled chaos I’d like to call this song. What really stands out for me is the guitar work on this one. Very groovy, very party. A very good song to dance on or just mosh a lot to in the 2:38 song.

 

Okay, WARNING ahead. Do not look this title up on Google (I’m sure that everybody will do this but I warned you all). ‘Tonny De Toper’. Translation: ‘Tonny The Docker’. Groovy from the start. That’s a good summary for this song. The already classic humpa humpa drums are again very present on this song. But then. It is time to freaking dance! Kaasschaaf produces a great breakdown (not one of those metalcore breakdowns but a grind breakdown) to let you dance even more during the song.

 

PxOxDxDx. ‘Poepen Onder De Douche’. ‘Taking A Shit While Taking A Shower’. I asked Sjors what the thought behind the song was. He told me it is about taking a shit while taking a shower and shoving the shit down the drain while taking a shower. I guess that gives enough of an indication of how this song is going to sound. Chaotic and gore.

 

‘Het Griengas’. I can’t translate this because this is a made-up word by an evil guy from the Dutch tv-series ‘Bassie En Adriaan’. There was an evil professor who made ‘Griengas’ to let the whole world cry instead of making the whole world laugh. The song was a single put out weeks before the release of ‘Obesitatas’. For me this is one of my favourite songs on ‘Obesitatas’, because this has slow bits and Kaasschaaf is doing a great job of slowing things down and then going on in a freaking fast bit during the song.

 

‘Cock And Shoulders’. No need for translation here. This is the shortest song on the album. But in some way, Kaasschaaf has made this the most diverse song on the album. Fast throughout the whole song but a bit different style than previous songs on ‘Obesitatas’. Nonetheless, a great song to listen to.

 

‘Ezeltje Prik’. Which translates into ‘Pin The Tail On The Donkey’. But that translation doesn’t give a good indication of what this song is about. The intro to this song is in Dutch but in a small summary, the gives says that he is excited to see someone going to have sex with a donkey. This song has the grooviest riff of the whole album. An absolutely dancer!

 

Last song. ‘Delletje Open Rug’. Which is a Dutch snack with ketchup and onion. What really impressed me is the fast pig-squeals that Sjors produces in a few seconds. Again, this song fits in perfectly in the style that Kaasschaaf does.

 

Needless to say, is that I was really looking forward to this album. Highly anticipated and the album for filled that perfectly. The style is a little bit different than the previous release ‘Punanidectomy’ however it is even better in my opinion. With this line-up, Kaasschaaf can work on a bigger future. Don’t be surprised if Kaasschaaf plays Obscene Extreme in 2018. They certainly do have the potential to play that massive fest. As some of you might know, I was at their release gig with Party Cannon, Meadows and By Brute Force. Of course, I bought the cd and I am glad that that show was amazing. The guys from Kaasschaaf have done everything to make that show the best to date. They even had girls hand out cheese in very VERY nice outfits. That gig was a solid 10 out of 10 for Kaasschaaf and the audience.

 

To put this whole experience in perspective and numbers, I give this album a solid 9 out 10.
