Downfall Of Empires - Nephilim

Finally! The album that I've been waiting for! Nephilim is the next album after their previous release 'Sede Vacante'. I gave that album a 7.5 out of 10. Since then their style went through some changes. It isn't the more metalcore-vibe that I had with 'Sede Vacante'. It is more melodic death metal with metalcore vocals. It reminds me that this style is also being played by the band State Of Negation (which Downfall has toured with). Nephilim has 5 songs and is available via their Facebook for free download.
Nephilim starts with the title-track of the album. The song starts with a low and heavy bass riff which sounds amazing. First thing I notice is that the style has gone more to a death metal style of breakdown instead of a metalcore breakdown, which is an improvement. Before you know the second song 'Bestial' roars through the speakers of my PC. Fast and a lot of awesome growls. That is 'Bestial' in a nutshell. The next song on 'Nephilim' is: 'Epistle To The Willing'. This is absolutely my favourite song on the EP. Heavy, melodic, breakdown and a beautiful solo in the end of 'Epistle To The Willing'. That is the summary of this song and that's the reason that I really like this song. Onward towards the next song: 'Seven Kin Of Purgatory'. This song defines this whole new genre to me. You can't place it in the genre Metalcore, you even can't put it in the genre Melodic Death Metal. It is a new genre what many (new) bands play. The last song on this EP is called 'Seeker'. The longest song is saved for the end of the EP. This beast lasts over 5 minutes and is more metalcore than the other songs. It seems that Downfall Of Empires also can master Metalcore which gives them a wider fanbase. The song has a small surprise in the middle of the song that really caught me off guard. And sadly, there was that bloody silence again because this EP has ended.
The guys of Downfall Of Empires has finally found there sound in this genre which is amazing. In The Netherlands there are a few bands that play this genre and Downfall Of Empires is for sure a band that would get to the top if they continue with this music. Nephilim is a 8.5 out of 10 for me. Horns up dudes!
