Dodenkrocht - Misery Chords

For me this fairly unknown band came to the light when I saw the logo of Dodenkrocht on a Dutch metal flyer somewhere. I immediately went on a search and I saw that they’ve released their latest record ‘Misey Chords’. After the personal discovery of Dodenkrocht and ‘Misery Chords’ in 2013, it has taken 2 years for me to realize that this is one hell of a record. Dodenkrocht has been found in 2004 and has released 4 cd’s and one vinyl release of ‘Misery Chords’.
Not familiar with the old work of Dodenkrocht I started listening to the first song of ‘Misery Chords’. The song ‘Devoid’ immediately has me in his grasp. The eerie type of music that Dodenkrocht produces is really hypnotizing. The riffs and voice of the singer really drags you into the song and never lets you go. Maybe it is the fact that ‘Devoid’ lasts for over 12 minutes.
Next up is the ghoulish song ‘Wake The Dead’. This song is more up-tempo throughout the beginning of this 11 minute beast. A lovely combination of Atmospheric Black Metal and Raw Black metal this record is going to be labelled by me.
The second to last song of this 5 track EP is ‘Voices Of The Unknown Dead’. This one is more like ‘Devoid’. It sounds like an perfect soundtrack to an apocalyptic movie like ‘The Road’. An song with perfectly balanced tempo-changes through the short song but it still has the effect of the long songs: ‘Devoid’ and ‘Wake The Dead’.
For me an cover song on a record can be good but if you enjoy the music that the band originally makes, this wouldn’t be necessary. I haven’t heard of the band ‘Manus’ which ‘Lifeless Lies The Desolate Land’ is originated from, however not being Dodenkrocht’s own produced song it does fits the record perfectly. You wouldn’t notice it being a cover.
Overall this record is amazing. The atmosphere you get from this record is hypnotizing and that’s why ‘Misery Chords’ by Dodenkrocht gets an 9 out of 10 from Good Music Promotions.
