Sulphur Aeon - Gateway To The Antisphere

One of the best things that was going to be released this year is this record. The previous record from Sulphur Aeon was one of my personal best of 2012. I’ve had massive hopes for the album as well of pretty much everyone else that know of the existence of Sulphur Aeon.
The pretty famous demonic creature Cthulu has taken over the main story line of this album. Before we start off with the review of Gateway To The Antisphere, just a look at this artwork. This amazing artwork had my love for Sulphur Aeon grow even more. Props to Ola Larsson for creating this beauty.
The sound of the record is near perfectly produced and made by both Sulphur Aeon and Simon Werner. The vibe this record has is practically mesmerizingly beautiful. It literally drags you into the ocean to R’lyeh where Cthulu dwells. The unmatched doom/death metal Sulphur Aeon plays is almost unmatchable. It pretty much has every aspect a doom/death album needs in my opinion. It is eerie/spooky at the same time as heavy as hell.
Sometimes there are bands you just can’t compare with other bands. Sulphur Aeon is one of those bands. Maybe there are some comparisons with the bands Disma but Sulphur Aeon is pretty much a band on its own (genre on its own). Ive talked with a lot of people about the first record and about the band itself and I haven’t met someone that didn’t liked this album.
This 11 song demon literally crushes you and drags you to the bottom of the ocean. For me this is one of my top 10 releases of this year. I am very pleased with this record and it deserves a 9 out 10. Hopefully next year Sulphur Aeon will release another record!
