Deathspade - All Hail The Deathspade

A one-man punk-metal project mixed with ‘80’s horror and thrash metal. I am down with that for sure! Deathspade is a sideproject from the Chicagoan project Bloodletter and the mastermind behind this is Peter Carparelli. Guess he didn’t make enough thrash metal being in Bloodletter for 10 years. So lets dive into ‘All Hail The Deathspade’.
When you see the EP at first you will see the amazing artwork and logo by Adam Payne. Does remind me a bit of the Vulture records you might know. Also very dark and dangerous. If this artwork doesn’t draw you in to give this a listen, I don’t know what kind of artwork will. Besides the amazing artwork, there is some music attached to it.
If you love the ‘80’s thrash metal sound you are in the right place. Combine that with raspy heavy metal vocals you know and love and you will have the sound that Deathspade is throwing at you. However, there is a bit more to that. Add a whiff of HM2 galore to it and a fat sounding clunky bass and before you know it you are already done with this ongoing bulldozer of an EP.
The song lengths are punk song lengths so they don’t surpass the 3 minute mark which is all fine for Deathspade. He really makes sure you get every single note thrown at you in those 2,5 minutes. The high speed thrash riffing combined with the punk style drumming really divine the sound of Deathspade. Lately, I’ve been seeing bands that pick up the HM2 sound and combine it with punk but not so much with thrash metal since that will possibly go to being an old school death metal album rather than a HM2-infused thrash metal album/ep.
Deathspade really have found that sweetspot, being a project where HM2 punk and thrash are combined perfectly. I know it says death metal in the description too but I hear more punk and thrash in the sound that he has put out.
It is a fun EP to listen to and it will be fun to be put on a playlist full of punk and thrash. I know that the average metal fan will absolutely love this since every single metalfan does love the sound of the old school ‘80’s bands in one way or another right? It is a fun and fresh new sound to be listening to rather than the just relentless riffing of thrash or quickly getting generic punk that is being released. Deathspade has found the sweetspot for both of those fans and made it interesting. A true fun EP to listen to so this is highly advised to do so. So better check out Deathspade with his debut ep ‘All Hail The Deathspade’.
